Teaching
From
2003 to 2007, Kyle worked as a substitute teacher for School City of Mishawaka. With assignments ranging from special
needs preschool classrooms to high school calculus, each day presented a new challenge. While most of his experience came
on breaks from college, in the spring semester of 2007 he filled a temporary position at John Young Middle School. "Assuming
all the duties of a full-time teacher provided me with a new level of respect for what my parents and so many other great
teachers do every day," Kyle confides.
Kyle always loved performing and developed a particular
affinity for marching band and percussion while in high school. "When I later had the opportunity to share the skills I
had learned, I was thrilled," Kyle says. "Serving as an adjunct instructor for both Mishawaka High School and Elkhart
Central High School bands, while not always glamorous, was a rewarding experience. To see kids that I had tutored as freshmen
graduate four years later as mature young adults solidified in my mind the importance of extra-curricular outlets
in a student's personal development."
